Frequently asked questions

How do I refer my client for treatment?

There are many treatment options and local services available. Adis can help you to explore and match treatment to your client’s needs. Adis can also assist with navigating the referral pathways.

If you would like to discuss further options for your client call an Adis counsellor on 1800 177 833, or you can refer them here and an Adis counsellor will contact them at their preferred time to discuss options for treatment.

Your clients are also welcome to self-refer and do not require a referral to access treatment.

How do I refer my client for detox?

Detox (or withdrawal management) options depend on the nature of the substance, and how much and how often your client has used the substance. Adis counsellors may be able to direct you to appropriate treatment services based on your client’s requirements. If you know that your client requires inpatient withdrawal management then assessment is completed through your local AODS service for admission, find a service.

How do I manage my client’s withdrawal symptoms / complications?

The Alcohol and Drug Clinical Advisory Service is designed to assist health professionals with medically supporting their clients. If you require advice around withdrawal management, drug interactions or other alcohol/drug related concerns there are medical addiction specialists available from 8am-11pm 7 days a week on 1800 290 928.
